I've been hoping for months, but barely speculated by others.....

19" & 22" Merom-based iMacs (current iMacs already look "old" to me)

Don't think so. Even a 23" iMac would seem more likely. See, the 17" iMac already has the 19" panel resolution, dito for 20" and 22". It would add little value.

     backlit slim USB2 keyboard

I'd say highly unlikely. As far as I remember Apple always has had one line of such accesories.

new category: home theater component-sized Conroe-based Mac (no Cube/MiniTower; Woodcrest goes into Mac Pros)

Would be really cool, especially if it comes with Tivo functionality!

iLife, iPhone & all other rumors seem like smokescreen.

Agreed. iLife is a Januari product, and I don't think WWDC is a good time for the iPhone.

    Please, ACD's!

It's true...but I don't see it changing anytime soon. Americans are used to getting free or cheap phones when they sign up for a carrier contract. The carriers subsidize the cost so that expensive phones can be had for <$200. They RARELY pay full retail price ($300-$700) on a phone...mainly only when they break theirs and still have time on their contract. The way I understand it, the rest of the world pays full retail everytime they want a new phone. Is this right?

In Europe, it is pretty much the same as in the US, most people get their cell phone with a contract.

Why do we still call it iPhone 5? Everything points to iPhone 4S.

Indeed, I agree. I hope form factor stay the same as now since I have 4 bumpers, I will gift iPhone and a pink bumper to my girl. iPhone 4 is awesome it doesn't need a big revamp now... Sure more power always the better but I think users (me too) pretend too much nowadays.

Yes, but where is my Sandy Bridge Mac mini?!

This. With the current capabilities of the Sandy Bridge MBP's, I'd love a few SB Minis, in one of these:

Some will be bothered about IOS not being the most dominant. I personally don't care, I just want the best mobile OS.

iOS is neither, at the moment. I suppose that might change with iOS 5.0. I certainly hope it does. But with it looking like Apple is phoning in the iPhone 5th gen, I suspect these numbers will be crushing a year from now.

I suspect by that time Android will hold fully 50% marketshare.

One more thing. I'm not sure you guys know how Samsung works or really know how Big Samsung is.

It is the world's largest private conglomerage by Revenue. Annual Revenue of over 170Billion.

Apple Inc. (2nd largest market cap, pretty massive company) Over 65B of sales.

Samsung is almost 3X bigger in terms of Sales.

My point being that Samung phones and Samsung component makers are pretty much two separate companies that consolidate together. I'd bet that Samung Components treats Samsung phones just like any other vendor.

Apple suing the phone arm of samsung probably has zero impact on the component piece. Different entities almost with different relationships etc.. Samsung definitely values the apple relationship. It's the phone arm that ripped off apple's design and funtionality.

I think no new enclosure, they would have done that when they went Intel! I also second the antiMB keyboard sentiment. The powerbook keyboard is nearly perfect, & one of the the major selling points for MBP over MB for journalists, scientists, intensive-keyboardists, ect, only minor improvements could me made unless there is some new technology integrated...

    LAME

$2,499 standard price of Mac Pro ($2,299 for Education)

$2,124 is the lowest you can configure the Mac Pro ($1,962 for Education)

To get it that low, you have to drop the processors from 2.66GHz to 2GHz and and the hard drive from 250GB to 160GB

Airport Extreme & Bluetooth 2.0 still not standard

Weak graphics card standard (GeForce 7300, ugh)

    and as a sidenote:

MacBook Pro & MacBook processors untouched

     iMac untouched

iPod product line grows more stale by the day

Dang... I feel like $80 a month is a LOT of money for 1TB of space. Especially when you can pay $70 ONCE and get your own 1TB drive.

Of course there are many benefits of having your data "in the cloud," but I think their prices are way too high.

    I'm waiting for this. http://www.lacie.com/us/technologies/technology.htm?id=10039

Or was that simply the strawman rhetorical question of the day ... err ... hour?

It seemed like a cogent point to me. Your perspective will change if you do any number of things. Bet on horse races for a living and you'll never look at a horse in the same way that other people do.

    Earlier itcheroni said ...
I am primarily focused on making money through the time decay of the options.

Now I don't mean to be cruel, but he isn't making anything, creating anything or contributing anything to society through this livelihood. He's merely siphoning off the flow. And he wants to talk about perspective? It seems to me that making a living that way is guaranteed to give you a warped perspective.

    It's a perspective I'm glad I don't share.

    48/2(9+3)

There is implied multiplication between the 2 and the (9+3) term, meaning the equation effectively looks like

    48/2*(9+3)

    This is quite obviously 288.

I agree too this is a stupid question, it's akin to asking someone verbally "what does 'their' mean?" because the choice of "their" vs "they're" is not clear.

If there was a space, such that it said

    48/ 2*(9+3)

then I could see an argument for it being 2, but as it stands, there is no reason you should ever find this equation to be equal to 2.

I'd like to see Mac Minis start at $499, MacBooks & iMacs start at $999, MacBook Pro start out at $1499 and the Mac Pro at $1999. Maybe add a midtower mac at $1499. Don't know how likely this is, but just a thought

Following PEMDAS (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction):

But you have to also follow it from left to right.

Suppose subtraction precedes addition, like this: 4-5+6, then the answer would be 5 not -7.

Similarly, in this case, division is first so you have to divide first.

This is how I would solve the equation:

    48/2(9+3)

    = 48/2*12
    = 24 * 12
    = 288.

    :)

Unfortunately its not THAT easy. First, to delete the file you need to apply a jailbreak to your device. If you delete it on your Mac, pretty sure it will be recreated on your next device sync. Second, Im sure the consolidated.db is not used by Apple themselves, BUT I guess its used by their advertising partners. I bet certain Apps will be able to access it to show localized iAds to the user. And to top it all off, Apple hasnt asked for my permission to collect this data.

Ok, here's the information that's actually known about the consolidated.db file:
    1) It records the locations of nearby wi-fi access points and cell towers.
    2) When location services were originally added to the iPhone, the file had a different name and was stored in a different location. (It was moved as part of the multi-tasking updates.)
    3) The purpose of the file has been explicitly spelled out by Apple *from the beginning*. It is used *by* location services to calculate your current position in order to be able to display your position faster than would be possible solely using GPS. (It's part of the Assisted GPS process.)
    4) There is absolutely no evidence that the file's contents are ever transmitted to anyone. It exists on the iPhone, and in the backup(s) of said iPhone.

Congratulations! You have just provided a second independent source of unnatural delay proving Apple is already manufacturing Merom C2D MBPs and that 17" models will ship behind 15" models by a week Monday October 2.

I tihnk this is even better than the first reported unnatural delay. To take almost an entire month form order to delivery is crazy! Apple better have a damn good reason to delay for so long...and I think they do!

In regards to calculators and OSX spotlight
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calculator_input_methods
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_of_operations

With the immediate execution mode of operation each binary operation is executed as soon as the next operator is pressed, therefore the order of operations in a mathematical expression is not taken into account. Scientific calculators have buttons for brackets and these calculators can take order of operation in to account

Different calculators follow different orders of operations. Most non-scientific calculators without a stack work left to right without any priority given to different operators

while more sophisticated calculators will use a more standard priority

Who said that this an equation? What is the variable that is unknown?

    2 is still winning!

Well it is an equation as it is the same as as saying x=48/2(9+3)

Apple's marketing strategy has always been that the PowerBooks (MacBook Pro) have faster processers then any of the iMac offerings. The Conroe and Allendale (Desktop) chips run faster then the Merom (Mobile) chips.

I'm not sure that's true. They had the G5 in the iMac and it was never in the Powerbook. When the Intel iMac was released it was running the same CPUs as the 15" MacBook Pro that was released at the same time. They are very different products so the differentiation is built in.

Of course, because Apple is making the same mistakes that let Windows get +95% market share in spite of Apple's early lead in PCs.

A "closed" eco-system has no chance against an "open" eco-system.

Mac is still a success nonetheless...

Will be the same for the iPhone. Apple is happy with 2 models on 2 providers in the USA...

And yet the entire Android platform generates less revenue in a year than iTunes does in a single quarter.

The iPhone and iOS have never been lost leaders used to gain market share so Apple could have more eye-balls looking at search ads. Android is a trojan horse to expand PPC revenues as rapidly as possible; the public potshots about "open" and "curated" are just a distraction while Google fosters an increasingly fragmented ecosystem that encourages users to treat Android phones like disposables to be replaced with the newest shinny bobble from HTC, Motorolla, Nokia, Samsung every 8 months. The only winners in the Android hardware/OS race are the carriers and the manufacturers who can count on the vast majority of Android users to upgrade two or three times more often than iOS users, each replacement extending their contract and extracting revenue on non upgradable, but incrementally better handsets.
