Seems like a pretty good choice. I didn't realize anything was beating the Vertexes, although it's been about a year since I went shopping. (The IBM's were always a little faster, but a lot more dollars as well.)

This may sound totally obvious, but spend time on YouTube. There are a lot of folks people your age doing cool stuff and putting it on YouTube (Lucas Cruikshank aka "Fred" being one obvious, and rather obnoxious, example). Not all of it is good, and some of it is frankly terrible, but you quickly get a sense of what's cool and what's not (for example, YouTube seems to have popularized the disjointed jump cut.) You can take inspiration from the stuff that's done well, and learn from the bad stuff too by taking note of what they did wrong and how you would have done it differently.

However, these WU (and all the other SMP core_A3 and core_A5 ones) also qualify for Quick Return Bonus Points.
Basically, there is a sliding scale that rewards quick return with more points. This is done to encourage people to just run one client quickly, rather than multiple ones more slowly.
However, to qualify for these bonus points (that are often worth 10 times the base points), you'll need a passkey - see here:

I don't know how accurate this is, I'm not saying that its upscaling the DVDs but I am getting 1080p thru component. My TV will show me the resolution at the press of a button and when it changes. The Xbox is 1080p and when I place a DVD in the drive and play it, it does not (any longer) change down to 480p.

That said, the issue at hand is the DVD Consortium's rules on upscaling. They typically don't allow it over component... most upscaling players HAVE to use HDMI. Thanks, I used an intel mac in target mode and it worked great. Now if I could only figure out which version of itunes will run on this imac..... but maybe thats another thread.

A big problem with the big megapixels is the amount of storage they take on your phone. You cannot adjust the megapixel size down with a phone camera like you can with a point & shoot camera. A 16 megapixel camera in a phone will not give you a better picture than a 5 megapixel camera in a phone. A phone just does not have the room to install a quality sensor.

I'd say the $1999 model with the i7 3.4GHz upgrade is enough. Purchase RAM from a third party like OWC (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iMac/2011/DDR3_21.5_27), $50 for 2x2GB, $100 for 2x4GB. You could do the latter and end up with 12GB in your system and that should be plenty. I don't think you'll in anyway need 2GB of VRAM.
(I'm assuming Pro Tools has no problem with hyper-threading in the i7)
I'll have to check into Pro Tools, including whether I can transfer my Windows license to Mac, which I doubt - so I may end up going with Logic.
