You don't HAVE an A# yet - it is the number you get on your greencard
The A# is a case number that USCIS assigns to certain people, and then (usually, for exceptions see below) stays with you for the rest of your life, much like a Social Security Number. Most people get their A# when they apply for adjustment of status. I can already see a future where there would be a law that would demand all immigrants wear some kind of bar code (rfid) so that it would be easier for law enforcement to track them down. :eek:
In regards to CIR..its all hogwash..my guess is that Dems are going to bring it on the floor and put up a masked brave fight to show that they at least tried to pass an immigration bill.

I talked to my attorney about the security clearance and he said my security clearance is done successfully. basically, FBI will do all that behind the scenes thats what my attorney said, they back check in bio-data since i came into US,
then
only i have received approved I-797 with company Y on Jun 5, 2008.
addition to it, i have a letter (from my attorney) from an expert opinion who is the Professor from University of Maryland on my Education and Work Experience. correct me if this is wrong.

i dont think my current client will give me that kinda luxury working from remote place,
what is TAL?
what information is provided there.

Can we use this site for networking and socializing with people in similar situation and/or sharing similar vocations....
This would mainly include invitation for a public gathering and encourage others to come forward. Examples of nature of such public gathering:
1. Say people in finance sector meet and exchange thoughts
2. Religious in nature but will not be solicitation.
3. General meeting etc...
What do people in this forum think?

If at all USCIS plan it efficiently - one quarter in an year can be used to allocate numbers to retrogressed countries - I am not 100% sure about this, but this is what happened in the July visa fiasco - DOS wanted to maximize utilization and USCIS screwed it up

I am also planning to travel on AP to India. I changed my employer, but didn't file AC21. AP's are still from the time when i was working for my old employer who sponsored me. Will it be any issue, if i travel with these AP's. What type of letter do i need to take from present employer durimg my travel. Please advise...
There is no problem with travelling on AP. For me, you should not even have second thoughts on personal travel , just go, AP or H1 does not matter as long as you have some form of reentry with you.

As for me, I am still waiting for my AP. The congressman's office got a response back from USCIS 2 days ago that they will take an action on my application in 5 days. But I am highly doubtful about that.....no good vibes. Every effort so far has been in vain so I have lost hopes. I have a feeling USCIS has lost my file or something and is just trying to buy some time.

Lately the members of IV have come to know that Aman Kapoor, the co-founder of IV has sold his house and spent around $64000/- towards the administrative costs of IV. This too was brought to our attention from a regular member like you and me, without which this would not have come to our knowledge at all.
So some of the members have taken an initiative to reimburse Aman and other core IV team members with the expenses they have incurred so far towards the administrative costs of IV. Note that the time they have spent and the sufferings cannot be compensated. Let us do the least by atleast compensating the money. Please do not donate directly to IV funds.

USCIS always goes by birth certificate whenever there is a discrepancy. Filing affidavit undermines your birth certificate. However you have a chance they might overlook it. Dont loose sleep over this issue. Whenever clearance approval happens you might be home safely.

My BC has 20th August as date of birth but from my school certificate,PP, DL all have 17th August date and I have send an affidavit with I-485 from my parents that I was born on 17th August. But Now when I read all the forums I think I should have send the affidavit which should have said that 20th was right but I did not know that uscis gives more importance to BC date instead of dates on other documents.
Does somebody know what uscis might do? Should I support 17th or 20th date now? and if 20th then is it possible date on school certificate, DL can be changed? I finished my 10th in 1990 and CBSE board. but on CBSE website they say they can change the DOB but only if I had finished 10th in the last two years.

My husband (H1B) and I (H4) We live in Chicago and wanted to get H1B visa stamp in Canada. My husband has been on H1B since 2003 and he is NOT in IT field.
Our experience:
Step 1: Put together all the documents and take a appointment date in Ottawa (Toronto had a long wait and we had heard a few horror stories so to be on a safer side)
Step 2: Went to Detroit to get a Canadian Visa. Very straight forward the only question we were askes was "Why are you going to Canada for a visa stamp?" We got our passports the same day. This can be done via post as well!
Step 3: We drove to Ottawa - 15 hours from Chicago. Crossed border in Niagara, NY. It was very cool. Hardly 30 min wait in the queue and 5 min wait at the window. We didn't even got out of car.
Step 4: After spending weekend in Niagara and Toronto reached Ottawa on 22nd Nov for visa appointment on 23rd Nov, 9 am.
Step 5: My husband reached consulate at 8:45 am (We stayed 10 min from the consulate in Quality Inn hotel, Ottawa) He was asked very basic question. Such as:
Which employer?
How long on H1B?
What do you do?
Has immigration petition been filed? (Yes)
Do you have the document for labor? (No I only got H1B relevant documents.. Sorry!)
Why stamping in Canada?
Step 6: He was told that his passport will reach DHL office on either Thurs or Fri (2-3 working days)
Step 7: We came back to Ottawa on Thursday (26th Nov) after spnding one day in Montreal and one day in Quebec city. We straight away went to the DHL office (timing are 8:00 - 18:00 closed Sat, Sun) They had his passport ready even when online the status was saying no info !!
Step 8: Friday - 27th Nov we drove back to US and crossed border at 1000 Island bridge in NY. We had to get out of our car and they issued my husband a new I 94 (nothing for me) because he didn't have a white I -94 he only had a bottom part of his I 797 approval. They charged $6 for I 94. They were very friendly unlike immigration at airport!!
We reached home on Saturday after a fabulous road trip along with a successful visa stamping!!
